Sunday and Other Services

Photograph of the baltar at St. Peter's church, MonkwearmouthThe Eucharist according to Common Worship of the Church of England is said (sung frequently) every Sunday at 11 am. Incense is often used.

What is significant about the Wearmouth-Jarrow site is that Christian worship has continued, through the interruptions caused by the Viking invasions and the Tudor Dissolution of the Monasteries, to the present day.

Hence a visit to St.Peter’s is not merely an experience of a heritage museum, but a spiritual encounter with a living tradition of a community at worship and with a God the Venerable Bede was eager to promulgate in his writings and in his sermons.

The congregation is inclusive in its approach and we welcome visitors and pilgrims regularly at our worship.

People attending church on Sundays often stay for a pre-booked inexpensive Sunday lunch at Bede’s Bakehouse after the service. To make a booking please follow this link for Bede’s Bakehouse bookings.
